The Blackford Centre is a global distance-learning business based in Frome. It aims to help people achieve their potential by giving them skills that will let them become self-employed or gain a new job.

The company has over 30 courses, ranging from copywriting to graphic design and foot health care. With learners in 80 countries worldwide, the business operates at the nexus of publishing, education and online marketing.

Training Scheme

As part of this job, you will join a training and support programme run by Edventure Frome, an award-winning education and community organisation in Frome.

The purpose of the training scheme is to help you make the most of your placement, meet other young people on placements locally, increase your employability in the green and community sector, and support you with your next steps. The training will happen every week for two hours for the duration of your placement.


Job Basics

Wage: The Real Living Wage

Hours: 25 hours a week

Working week: 9-2 Monday to Friday

Expected duration: 6 months

Roles & responsibilities

  • Product improvement
  • Do internet research to find new content (video, audio, text and apps)
  • Amend existing content and add/edit new material
  • Commission content from subject experts
  • Edit existing content
  • New product development
  • Assess the roles and professions that people want to get into
  • Evaluate the demand for such roles
  • Create a long list of possible courses
  • Outline how such courses might be structured.
  • Create and commission new content
  • Support our philanthropic causes, through communication with stakeholders and the public
  • Undertake other administrative and marketing tasks that might be required


Person specification

Desired skills

  • Highly literate. Educated to degree or A level.
  • The ability to write clear English
  • Ability to carry out online research using Google
  • Ability to handle multiple demands

  • An enquiring, creative mind
  • Willingness to learn
  • Flexibility


Desired qualifications

At least A levels. A degree would be preferable.
